Jackie, Sarum is the diocese. It covered most of Wiltshire, most of Berkshire, parts of Dorset and a small area in Devon. Crista |

I think Sarum is also another name for Salisbury. Sue |

If you're interested in the history of Salisbury there is a wonderful book called Sarum by Edward Rutherford. It's fiction, but set in the true historical events and takes the place right from prehistory up until (I think) the 20th century. There's one about London too. Ann |

I think you'll find that referrences to Sarum marriage bonds in familiy history sites will be in connection with the records of marriage licences issued by the diocese (ie when people applied to marry without having had the Banns called in their respective parishes for three successive weeks). |
