On my grandfather's birth cert (can't you tell I received this today!!) it gives details of the mother as follows "Sarah Buzzing late Coghlan formerly Martin). Does this mean she was Sarah Martin, married ?? Coghlan who died and then married my g-grandfather??

I would have thought so

'late' would be previous marriage, 'formerly' would be maiden name. Steph

thanks Steph, that sort of helps apart from on the 1901 census it has Sarah and kids living with her mother (Elizabeth Coghlan) who is Head of household but no blokes around. Am thinking they had gone off to Boer War but still checking that line of thinking.
