Doing an extra Microsoft update seems to have cured the problem. Thanks to everybody for their suggestions.

Thanks, Colin I'm using W2000 and IE5. I'll try re-updating, most of the downloads I did were security patches. Might even update to IE6 whilst I'm at it, unless anyone recommends against it. I'm on Broadband so it shouldn't take too long (did it on a dial-up on my old computer and it took hours).

Tried that and the problem is still there. Anyone got an idiot's guide?

Thanks for the advice, most grateful. I've printed it off in case the thread disappears and will give it a go tonight.

Bob...you're too funny! LOL! You're additional comment was none the less just as helpful. Thanks for picking up the slack and picking up on what I failed to notate! LOL Judy :)

You beat me to it again Judy:) Just to add that these should be the default settings if you set security to "MEDIUM" Bob

Perhaps one of the downloads may have changed one of the ActiveX settings in your computer. Check and see if the following is checked off in your ActiveX settings: 1. Click START 2. Click CONTROL PANEL 3. Click INTERNET OPTIONS 4. The box that pops up, Click on the SECURITY tab. 5. Click on CUSTOM LEVEL The first 5 things listed have to do with Active X. a. ActiveX controls and plugs-ins – PROMPT b. Download unsigned ActiveX controls - DISABLE c. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe – DISABLE d. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins – ENABLE e. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting – ENABLE 6. Click OK or APPLY If that doesn't work, if you'd like, I can list the rest of the settings listed under the Security/ActiveX options and advise on what should be marked off there. Judy

Since I installed the critical updates from Microsoft at home a week ago, whenever I use the "Back" button on GC (and other sites) I get an error message "This page provides potentially unsafe information to an ActiveX control...etc." I've reset the security options back to the default levels but it's still coming up. It's just annoying, not harmful, I've got Panda Platinum firewall/antivirus, running Windows 2000 and IE5. Anyone any ideas on what I need to do to prevent it appearing?
