I have been searching a Winifred Gregg who was married to a James Cracknell in 1856 and had a son James Edward Cracknell in 1856 (yet another illigitimate conception for my family). On the 1881 census there is a Winifred Gregg who is a Widow but would she have reverted to her maiden name if her husband had died, any comment would be gratefully received. Linda P |

HI Lorna that suggestion would fit, it may well have been a shot-gun marriage as she was already 8 months pregnant, so not necesarily an ideal match. I have not found James Death certificate as there are so many James cracknells and I do not Know his age or place of birth |
