Is there any access to the names of children who have, in the past, been placed in Dr.Barnado's homes.

Try the Barnardo's website (can't remember the exact URL, but if you put "Barnardos" into your search engine it should come up). There is an e-mail address listed for enquiries, they will respond to you if you have a specific question about a named person to whom you are directly related. They will e-mail an application form back to you, you have to print it out, fill it in and send them £20 for an initial search. The full information package on the named individual (for which you may have to wait up to nine months, due to their current backlog) costs another £30 but you don't have to pay that straight away. I'm currently waiting for them to come back with the full info on my late grandfather. Hope this is useful. Simon Gomersall

Have found several ships sailing with Barnados children on this site: http://freepages . genealogy . rootsweb.c o m/~tweetybirdgenealogy/hcpasslist.html SS Canada seems to have been a favourite around 1904/5.

I emailed them, using the address on the Barardos site, and had a reply saying it was referred to a part of their organisation which had a reply standard of 10 days...still waiting after 5 days, but the response looked reasonably serious. JA
