There weren't any legal adoptions before 1927, it was done informally as guardianship or fostering although the term was used and children "adopted" names. Bob

I don't know of any websites but you can write to:- Adoptions Section, Office for National Statistics, Smedley Hydro, Birkdale, Southport, PR8 2HH This is for adoptions since 1st Jan. 1927. I don't know about before that date.

Hi Does anyone know how i can trace an adoption, all i have is the mothers name, any website addresses would be gratefully recieved
