Thanks Jacky & Susie, Funny thing is I have been concentrating only on immediate family so don't know anything much about siblings really. This could be the kickstart I need. Will keep you posted. Naomi

Hi Naomi, I know what you mean about concentrating on immediate family. I always thought my Granddad was an only child as I had never heard of any family. It turns out he was one of 11 and I am in contact with grandchildren from 3 of them. As they were all born in the 1870s and 80s, it has been great 'discovering them. Jackt

Wow! Fancy discovering there were 10 more relatives, Jacky. I can understand your excitement, Naomi. When I first began researching I had to travel to record offices (no GC then) and I could be seen running from Holborn station towards St Catherine's House, eager to discover the next batch of relatives. As my lot actually came from London I would emerge hours later still inhabiting the 19th century. It must all be to do with knowing who you share your gene pool with. Discovering a real life person who shares a distant great, great, etc grandparent makes them seem special.

I knew, even though both my parents were only children that they both had cousins but we only had limited contact with them on my Mum's side and hardly any on my Dad's. It'll be nice to get in touch with someone that is related even if it is quite distant. Naomi

I think I'm so excited Julie because there's only my brother and I in my immediate family now and he's so disinterested in the whole thing. He couldn't really care less where we came from. Whereas if this person is a distant relative I'll have someone to exchange some information with and learn a few more things. Naomi

Congratulations, Naomi. I do hope your reply comes soon. I've found 2 first cousins twice removed through this site and it's been great fun sharing our findings, ringing each other up and sharing the cost of certificates. Also nice to have another brain to pick on the internet when you get frustrated. Have fun and good luck. Jackie

Hi All, I've heard back with a short mail. Unfortunately this site is set up with my work address (where I spend most of my time) I did give my home e-mail in a seperate mail so he's replied to work and e-mailed me at home to let me know. I think this may be the first time I can't wait to get to work on a Monday morning! Naomi

I'm laughing about you wanting to go to work! Can you not check your mail from home? (Computers and I don't get along -- just thought I would ask if it's possible.)

This is probably the only time I will say this Lisa but unfortunately I can't access work computer from home. It seems this guy has a huge tree where as mine is fairly small. At least it looks like one branch will be extending! I'm quite pleased as I've got stuck with this branch anyway as it goes to Nova Scotia in the 1840's. Naomi
