Old London Street Names

It seems one of my ancestors was born in Esher Street Westminster in 1869. My current A to Z does not have a street of this name. Apart from the possibility that I can`t read the birth certificate properly, how would I find if a street of this name did once exist?

I can't remember how I found it but there is a site with "lost London Streets" listed on it. I was trolling around on google somewhere. Try typing in maps to starts with and see what that gets you, then refine it down to london streets.

This is the address for lost London streets http://members(.)aol(.)com/WHall95037/london.html Don't forget to remove the brackets first! There was an Esher Street in Kennington - now called Aveline Street. Bit far from Westminster though! Sue

Try the map on this website: http://www(.)motco(.)com/map/81006/ - a very large scale map of London from 1862. You can search on names ending "Street" or "Road" (you have to buy the CD to find "terraces", "places" etc.) Gill

To Gillian Taylor: Found it, thanks....what a great resource! FYI; Esher street used to cross between Vincent Street and Page Street.
