I also find ancestry very useful. I have found lots of rellies on the 1891. They also have the english deaths index from 1984 to 2002, which I have found very useful, because if you find a death on there, most of them give you the date of birth also. They are also in the process of scanning the 1871 English census which will be very useful. I also enjoy doing look-ups for other people who maybe do not have the money spare to subscribe to the site themselves. Maggy

I have to agree. I have found ancestry to be worth every penny and I enjoy doing the occasional look up when I get the time. B

Iam now all for Ancestry, i went on it 2 years ago paid the fee,but did not know properly how to use it and searched for my family in the wrong place and found nothing so i never went on it again, after a year they came back saying they were about to take another year and i told them in no uncertain terms that it was rubbish and dont dare take my money, any way 2 years on i now know my way round and i go on the site every night looking up diffrent people for freinds, i can do this 7 days aweek 24 hours a day so i now think the fee is for nothing , bearing in mind i have had 2 nights on 1837 online at £85.00 a night, and when your credit is out your off, now that site is expensive and poor value for money, i think Ansestry is great and with1871 census coming sooon even better

30 quid plus 5.25 VAT, per quarter. Do you have 35 quids worth of 1891 census lookups waiting? You might find something else, but that will be a lucky bonus Don't be impressed by the number of name matches they report. They include US sources as well as UK. They include the free sources as well as the subscription databases. Some of the matches may be spurious, e.g. first name and surname in same record, but belonging to 2 different people. And at the end of the day most of what's left will just be the wrong date or wrong place

Hi I subscribe to ancestry uk and find it very useful. I have used the 1891 census in particular and have found information on Pallot's Marriage Index. The quarterly fee is about £30, I think. As the 1871 census is coming on-line with ancestry, I intend to carry on with my subscription. I hope this helps. Sue
