Hi I'm going to go to my local Records Office next month to look for some of my relations on the electrol roll, but I cant remember when it was that women won the right to vote, can anyone assist? Before they won the right to vote, were they able to vote? and if they werent able to vote would they have been listed on the electrol roll? Also how easy is it to search the electrol rolls at local record offices? Any info, will be much appreciated. Karen

I think it was about 1919 when women of 30 or over got the vote, then about 1928 it was extended to 21 or over. No women in the earlier registers. I searched local Electoral Registers at Gloucester - it was easy enough but prepare for eye fatigue.

Thanks Robert for the info. When did it change to 18, that women could vote, which I think is the case now? Are the electrol rolls listed by address?

I think it was 1969 when 18s got it. The registers I looked at (1890 to 1920) were listed alphabetically for each area/village.

Karen go to google and type in suffragettes. This was a group of women lead by Ms Pankhurst ?. The first site I went into show you pictures and gives info on them. Mary
