you would think so Wendy! i think 6 months would be a long time to go before registering so i would expect she was registered in scotland. good luck - let me know how you get on, Kathleen

Hi Kathleen, no havnt tried that one, will give it a go, thanks. She insists its LILY, do you think she could have been registered in Bootle, not Scotland as she was only 6 months when they moved? I dont know how soon after the birth they had to be registered then, would she have been classed as born in Bootle then?? You'd think with a mothers maiden name of French, in Scotland, she'd be easier to find!!!

also, was lily her full first name? she wasn't lillian or lillith or anything like that?

Thanks William, tried that, the only Rose French's born were 2 in 1900 and 1 in 1873, making the first too old and the other two too young!! plus the parents dont match the marriage cert, and that marriage is the only one it could be, right people, right place, right time, if fred is illigitimate that is, just getting nowhere and its winding me up, must be missing something really obvious!!

Don't despair. Have you tried the Scottish site, I think it is www.scotspeople.???? - not sure whether it is gov.uk or org. No doubt someone else reading this can fill it in correctly. Badger Bill Worthing

My nan (lily Thompson) was born in Scotland, 26/11/1917 and moved to Bootle at 6 mnths old. Her parents were Rose French And Albert Thompson, and she had an older brother Frederick born 1914/15. I've found a marriage cert for an Albert and Rose 24/01/1917 but I cant find anything else at all, not even nans birth, and god knows where fred went to. Albert is 27 on cert and Rose 26, I know she was born in Motherwell, Scot, but cant find any records to match what I have. CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE???
