Of full age was often just an indication that they were of mature years. When age is given as 21 this still does necessarily mean they were actually 21 but 21 or over. I have certificates where is states of full age and they were in their 40's. And of course they lied. Regards Julie

Helen,just read about this in the family tree magazine. Before 1929 ,I think girls from the age of 12 could marry so between 12 and 21 they were minors,over 21 they were of age. Boys could marry from 14 and again between 14 and 21 minors and over 21 of age. After 1929 they all had to be 16 to marry with consent Minor and 21 was of age. Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me what age is "of full age" on a marriage certificate, and minor please? Thanks
