Thanks Jude, we're actually still using the old Windows 98. All replies have been passed over to hubby for which he says a big thank you to you all and he will have a proper look tomorrow (he's been using a computer all day and needs to give his eyes a break). Thanks everyone Trish

Trish: Bob is correct, if working with Windows XP with using Restore function of computer. See recent threads on computer maintenance, windows updates and spyware. Computer maintenance is important and if not done could cause the problems you are experiencing. After doing routine maintenance yjobs ou might then want to consider having your computer looked at by a technician. If you need assistance just give me a shout. Judy

Trish Have you installed any progs lately? You could try system restore to see if that solves the problem: To open System Restore, click Start, and then click Help and Support. In the Help and Support Services window, click Fixing a problem, and then click Using System Restore to undo changes Bob

Take it to PC World and get it serviced. If there's a problem they will spot it and should have the answers as to how to fix it. Good luck!

On starting up the computer at times (seems to happen more and more often of late) the start up procedure seems to get 'stuck' halfway through and am left with no option but to close down and start again. Any advice appreciated but will leave it to hubby to read through any answers as I don't understand it at all - took me a week to learn HOW to turn it on!
