Yes Jess that's right. Census have to be 100 years old before they can be viewed by the public Margaret

Not true, the 1841 and 1851 census were released in 1912! On all census's prior to 1981 there was no promise not to disclose. There is no legal impediment to disclosure it is subject only to ministerial discretion. Bob

Bob You are correct about the 1841 and 1851, but this government isn't interested in genealogy. What chance do you give on the 1921 being available? I'm not holding my breath Margaret

With all the money the government must make (at £7 a go for certs) you would think they would jump at the chance to make some more by releasing the 1911/21 now. Think of all the people that died in the wars that people may want to have something with their name on, just for starters. They've made a lot of money out of the 1901 site, it would be good to release these to enable millions of researchers to find more immediate family. I still don't know the names of all my grandparents siblings.

Someone told me it was out of respect to those on the census who may still be alive! I wish they'd release the 1911 soon as i'm desperate to work out when my gt grandparents emigrated to canada :(

It does seem silly when you think with the internet and everything all our names and details end up all over the place. Nothing is really private anymore.
