Hi, I had a similar thing on the birth certificate for my 2x gt grandad his mothers name says Harriet Bindley late Smalley i thought the late meant maybe she was widowed until i got the marriage certificate for her marriage to my 2x gt grandads father where it gives her surname Smalley and says she was a spinster. I haven't seen that before but I guess it could also mean her previous married name if she was a widow? Joan |
