Hi Kay,.. And Elaine, I've had a look at 1837, Mar qtr 1863, and although it isn't a very good scan, came up with exactly what Elaine has: Murray Keith and Murray Linda M, Age 0, Newcastle T, 1B, 174. Same ref for both. Debbie

Hi Kay, This is from Barbara Dixons web-site (just to clarify my info) "If there is a time against the date of birth then there was more than one child born alive at the birth. If however a mother had twins, one liveborn and one stillborn, then the live born twin will not have a time against the birth. Until 1926 there were no registrations at all of a still born child. Having said that, again the early registrations are not consistent. The registrar in the Eton district did not put the times of births of twins in the registers at all until 1845 while the one in Stoke-on-Trent put times against all the registrations up until about 1850. It is possible to check for twins by looking for identical or consecutive GRO references in the indexes. If a child lived even for a few seconds there should be both a birth registration and a death registration but I think in the early days that this wasn't always done." Debbie

In addition to the "time on birth certificate" thread... My mother-in-law had twins that died shortly after birth. I have their original birth certificates but there were no death certificates with them. Deborah Scott kindly advised that there would be death certs issued if their births were registered. They were born on 3 March 1963. The eldest, Linda Marie, birth was registered on 4 March and the youngest, Keith, was registered on 5 March. Are there any online records where I could search for their deaths?? Kay
