Heidi, If you search for Ernest born in Manchester and aged 20, an Ernest ... appears. It's a longshot but this might be him and they couldn't read the name. Crista

Thanks to everyone! As far as i know there's no alfred in family. There is still the possibility like rosemary said of him being in the boer war. But i'm still puzzeled why no birth for him?

I too have had a good look on 1901 and no real result. There is an Alfred Condy aged 18 who is a soldier. If that is a relative then this may back up Rosemary's view. Have you tried the GRO references as FreeBMD is not complete. Either free at most local libraries or 1837 online. Good luck John

Hi Heidi Is it Cawdor Street, Eccles ? If so try giving salford History Place a ring to see if they can look up a christening for him Im not sure if they do it but its worth a try. If it is Eccles local church may have been Christ Church,Patricroft or St mary's Catholic Church. Heidemarie Report 16 Jan 2004 13:57

Hello can anyone help me? I've a Ernest Condy who apart from the 1881/1891 census's seems not to exist. He's on the 1881 census with family listed as Ernest Cundy aged 2 Weeks old living at 77 Cawdor street, manchester(the census was on 3rd/4th April so he would have been born around 21st March) He's then listed on the 1891 census with family Ernest Condy aged 10 living 14 Stafford street,Hulme, Manchester. On the 1901 he's disappeared the rest of the family is listed even the married one's. I've tried every variations on his first and last name but to no avail. So i checked the free bmd to see if he died but he wasn't listed, so i checked and his birth isn't listed either but the rest of the family is. I've also checked on familysearch but they only have him on the 1881 census. Then a kind lady did a NBI, VRI search and again he's not listed, she also checked on ancestry civil records and again he's not listed. Can anyone help on the elusive Ernest Condy or is this my brick wall Thanks Heidi
