Most of my immediate family so far have come from or ended up in parts of London, mainly Camberwell, Hammersmith and Paddington. How might I find out where they would be buried? I've hear of the NBI but I don't think there's been much done for London and I know quite a few London graveyards don't actually exist anymore. I really don't know where to start on this one... Thanks Naomi

Naomi, I have a little book of Cemeteries and Crematoria in the Greater London area - no wonder hubby thinks I am mad!! It tells where each one keeps its records etc. I am quite happy to provide these to you, let me know as much as you can about where/when people died and I will check A to Z etc for locations and pass details to you. Will happily do this for anyone else too, just let me know. Maz. XX

Hi Maz, Two of my Great Grandparents were buried in Paddington Cemetery. Louisa Matilda Ayres aged 49 in 1912 grave No 10484-3F and John George Ayres aged 64 in 1924. Can you see who I might have to get in touch with to visit the graves? Thanks Naomi

Naomi I don't know if they belong to you, but there are 41 Ayres buried at Abney Park Cemetery. www(.)abney-park(.)org(.)uk remove brackets. Click on 'Abney Park Cemetery Trust' and then 'Indexing Project' and you'll find the letters of the alphabet at the bottom. From this you can search the surnames. Hope this helps Janet

Hi Naomi, Camberwell New Cemetery. Entrances: Brenchley Gardens and Brockley Way. Nearest train stations. for both cemetery's Crofton Park and Honor Oak Park This cemetery was opened in 1927. Before that there's Camberwell Old Cemetery, Forest Hill Road. They are quite close to each other. Happy Hunting

Hi Marie, there are quite a few in the area - if you can give an address and rough idea of date I can narrow it down a bit. Also are we talking C of E or not do you know? Otherwise I will e-mail you with full details. Maz. XX

Hi Maz, I dont know whether you can help me as I dont have any dates of death which is why I wanted to try to check out the cemeteries. The only adresses I have for my rellies is Dagmar Rd London and Plover St Hackney. I have found christenings so they must have been c of e. Thank you Marie

Hi Maz, Just to let you know I have been on the blower to Paddington Cemetery and it seems my G Grandmother was buried in a public grave. They are going to look into my G Grandfather but I suspect it will be the same. Thank you so much for your help Naomi

I feel quite sad about this. Sounds strange but I was quite looking forward to going to the cemetary and actualy making a "physical" connection rather than just having certificates and very old photo's and trying to imagine what someone might have been like. Never mind, onwards and upwards I suppose. Naomi
