Thanks Amanda, I found this info when I was visiting my home town, unfortunately I live 200 miles away and I ran out of time. I was concentrating that much on finding the direct line that I never got around to looking for siblings. I'll try the IGI/LDS and if I can't find anything I'm hoping to go back this year and I'll have to spend every single minute of my time in the record centre and graveyards! Oh this is an addictive hobby!!!

Kathryn - he was baptised on 24th December 1820, they married on 7 February 1820! So you may have a very good point there!! I'm not sure how long after the birth they were usually baptised. Do you know how I could find his actual date of birth? Would there be any records of birth for 1820 anywhere? Thanks Susan.

When was the birth of their first child? He may have had to marry at 18, if you see what I mean.

Thank you Robin, next time I visit my home town I'll check the Parish Registers again and the gravestones. I certainly do need to delve deeper, thanks for the help. I don't suppose there is anything online I can check is there? Susan

age at death is a possible clue, though they weren't always accurately stated apart from that, if they were two of them, the clue could be anywhere in the life story of either of them. If there were two John Hall marriages, when was the other one? If it was earlier, you might have to go for the younger one. If you know the siblings of the two Johns, one of them might have signed as a witness at one of the weddings also look at the burials -- if one of them died young and you can find out which, that will settle it

Thank you everyone for your help. I was doubtful if he would have married at 18 too. I got my info on the marriage from a film at Oldham Record Centre. Would the same film be supplied if I ordered it through LDS? Should I go to the Church to see the original or are they all now at the County Record Centres? Maz - I think you did answer my question. Sorry to bombard you all with more questions. But thanks because you have now given me more routes to follow.

It might help to look further at parish records. By looking for burials or witnesses at marriage, the whole picture may become clearer. My lot tended to call sons, cousins etc after grandfathers and uncles. -not helpful if they were common names.

I think I've just answered a question you didn't ask!! The only other thing is to find John's marriage record, which may narrow down which parish he came from. Sorry if none of this is answering you, I'm a bit dopey today!! Maz. XX

Have you looked at the original parish records, or just the on-line IGI? The original should have the parents names. You would need to go the the County Record Office, or order the records at your nearest LDS/Mormon Family History Centre. Maz. XX

I don't have a definite answer, I'm afraid, Susan. However, I think I would go with the older one. Whilst it was quite commen for girls to get married under the age of 20, I haven't come across many 18 year old men getting married... However, that is just speculation. How you prove which is 'yours' I'm not sure.

HALL I am trying to find information on my Hall ancestors. William Hall (b 1820 Saddleworth) married Sarah Rhodes (b 1824 Saddleworth) in 1843 at St. Michael's Church, Mottram-In-Longendale. Both their fathers were called John. If anyone has any info on John Rhodes, please contact me. John Hall married Sarah Buckley in Saddleworth on 7 February 1820. There were no ages on the Church Record, so this is where my problem starts. When I tried finding the christening date of John Hall, I found two Johns, one born in 1797 and one in 1802, I don't know which one it is, and so I have two sets of parents to choose from. Does anyone know how I can find out which is my John? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Susan
