Costs of veiwing church records

Cecilia I've looked at lots of Church Records that are still at the church (usually after 1900). The cost depends from church to church. Some charge by the hour, some not at all, some ask for a donation to the church. It is usual to ring the vicar and make an appointment to view them. If you looking at them, then I think you may as well do the baptisms, marriages and burials on the one visit. If you fix the name you are looking for in your head it doesn't take long to look down the surname column. Our local Catholic priest a few years ago, asked us into his office, gave us coffee and helped out with the latin, all for no charge at all. But we did give a donation. Margaret

Hi, Church records over a hundred years old should be in the county record office. Most ROs film them and they are available for you to look at on microfilm or microfiche. There is supposed to be a standard charge for a search of Church records at the church but I've forgotten what it is. Hope this helps, Gwynne

Hi Please can you tell me how much is the normal fee for asking to access church marriage records? Do you have to write to the Vicar andask them to search, or are you able to look yourself? I am new to family history and need to start with finding the correct surname for my maternal grandmother
