I've just emailed them to ask lol I have found the site of great use but was peeved not to receive the notification. However I do have a spam checker and I bet it thought the mails from ancestry were spam and deleted them!

Hi Barbara, yep your lucky not paying the tax, I would'nt be suprised if it was a recent addition.... would you care to pay for next years subscription for me if you can get away with the tax, lol. However I have found loads of info about all my ancestors on Ancestry so its been well worth the money.

Hi Andrew, I guess I was the lucky one then as I paid no vat!

The Ancestry(.)co(.)uk site charges you tax on top of the subscription fee, so its not people subscribing to the wrong site. I dont think you will be able to claim back the VAT unless your registered for VAT as ancestrys subscription collection is registered in the UK.

Shirley are you sure you joined the right one? Ancestry(.)co(.)uk has the 1891 census and all kinds of english things Ancestry(.)com is the American version. For my sins I am not sure if I paid tax ! Will check when I get my card statement! Aha! Found the one from September and I paid exactly 29.95

I know this may sound daft but can you not claim the tax back like people from visiting customers from abroad do here! I know I work for a big company and customers are usually asking for the VAT back form to fill in before they have paid!!! love Jan x

I recently had the 14 day trial, however when you look at the date your subscription is due for renewal it starts from the date you start the trial so you are not really getting a free trial if you go on to take the subscription out.

I also feel that Ancestry subscription fees are misleading, I recently took out a year subscription and was shocked that the total amount came to aprox £82, due to the added tax ! A GC member recently wrote to ancestry to ask why we are being charged tax, their response was that they're required to charge VAT. But this should be made clearer on their website not classed as tax, this is an american term.

Hi Julie I signed up for one year not realising the tax would be added on, I think they should make the payments very clear for the whole total . Since joining I have not had a lot of luck with rellies, it seems there are more details on America.

i'm sure this has been covered before, but here goes! I'm thinking of taking out an Ancestry 3 mth subscription for £29.95. However when i was a bout to send the request they had added tax on to it, which made the price £35.19. There was no mention of this extra fee anywwhere on their website, only the £29.95 in BIG text! I take it if i want access i have to cough up the extra? I just think it's rather naughty to add on so much without any previous warning? Any thoughts on this? Julie T:) ps bet i just sign up anyway!
