Thanks for that help. I'll have to look for an old map and try to plot possible loations. Perhaps the Bucks records office will have old farm logs where i can seek out ag labs. Alison

Alison I had several relatives in Devon who were agricutural labourers. I checked their addresses and found their locations (some on old OS maps). Addresses were from both census records and parish records. The parish records gave me names in addition to the village. For example, baptism records gave locations where children of my agricultural worker were born and my farm worker was located at the time of each birth. When I checked these they were actually the names of farms or estates. For one of my relatives I could check his working history over a period of 7 children as they moved cottage with job - all in the same parish. His sons worked the same farms. Further check also showed that several of these farms were in the ownership of the same family landowner, including a farm in a neighbouring parish. John

If they are not living on the farm then they could be working for a number of farmers in the area on a day to day basis. Otherwise if you look for the closest farm to the home they lived very near they were probably in a tied house to that farm. Depending on the size of the estate there could be records for the farm showing who they employed, how much they paid etc. Bob

I have an awful lot of Agricultural Labourers in my family tree and all steming from the same village in Buckinghamshire. Is there any way of finding out who they were working for. If there are not living on the farm then they are recorded with their families on Census returns (thank goodness otherwise i'd nver find them). Does anyone know where i can look? Thanks in advance Alison
