Hello I just looked up Letitia Parkinson on the civil regisration list. There were no entries for 1886 but I did find one for 1885. It is quite an unusual name so it could be right. If so her birth was registered in the quarter April/May/June 1885. It was registered in Durham and the reference is 10a Page 358. I find that obtaining a birth certificate is very helpful. You could then find her parents names, where they lived and her mother's maiden name. All these help as clues and to validate information you find. I then looked her up on 1901 and found a Letitia who was 16. Although she was registered in the June quarter she could have been born in the first quarter of Jan/Feb/March. This would explain her being 16 as she would have had her birthday before the census was taken. This may be the completly wrong area but I'll tell you the information I found. In 1901 Edward Parkinson age 50 coal miner Elizabeth Parkinson age 46 Letitia Parkinson age 16 born in Houghall Durham At the time they were living at 175 Gillow Street, Cornsay colliery, North West Durham In 1891 They were obviously 10 years younger but the same names were given for Edward and Elizabeth but Letitia is down as Lily age 6. I have found discrepancies in names before. I have an uncle who was called Joseph in the 1881 census and William in the next. It turned out that he was called William Joseph. They were living at 52, Newcastle Street, Brandon, Durham. I hope this is of some help. It's easier to trace the Smiths through her as her name is more unusual. If I find out anything else I'll let you know. Good Luck Angelina

Sorry, I have gotten confused. Thomas George Smith was ONE of the 21 kids. It was him that was the twin with the girl. Thomas then married Lettitia!! I guess I don't have much chance really but I would still like your opinions or ideas please. Thanks Crista.

Andrea, If you know where they lived you could try the parish records. Crista

My Gran tells me that there was a family that had 21 kids. 2 of them were twins - one boy and one girl and that she was the only girl in the lot of them!! My Gran can only remember a few of the names (I bet the parents struggled to remember them all!!!) but no dates or anything. All I know is that it was Thomas George Smith married a Lettitia Parkinson (not sure on spelling of her first name). She was born in 1886, but don't know about him - which means that all this lot would have been born after 1901. Is there any hope before the 1901 census comes out do you think?? Anyone got any ideas??
