Hi Trish Hurst Green is about 5 miles south west of Clitheroe. The civil parish is called "Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley". (Parish names and boundaries appear on Ordnance Survey 1" maps, and the first series of 1:50,000 maps, but not on the current second series). You will see on Genuki if you look under English and Welsh Register offices, then search Lancashire, that the parish was in the Clitheroe Registration District. Best wishes Stan

Hi Lynne, That is very kind of you, thank you. I found William Worden's birth registered September quarter 1837 in Clitheroe. On the 1881 census he has a daughter Ann born 1863 and a son Thomas born 1864. Thomas may have been named after William's father as up to 1920 the names in each generation have gone - William, Thomas, William, Thomas, etc. Thanks once again for your help. Trish

I think it is Clitheroe also, but you could state when applying for the certificate that it is the one for Hurst Green that you want. Also if you know the name of the child's parents give those too. June Nr.Preston Lancs

Think it's Clitheroe. I found someone else born in Hurst Green and then found them on FreeBMD in Clitheroe. Crista

Patricia, Hurst Green is tough. The surrounding villages are in one of 3 districts; Preston, Blackburn and Clitheroe. Crista

Would anyone know which registration district Hurst Green, Lancashire comes under? I can't find it listed anywhere. I have found the birth I have been looking for, (I hope), in the year 1837, but there were two William Worden's registered that day - one in Clitheroe and the other in Preston. I have the William I am looking for on the 1881 census as being born in Hurst Green. Thank you. Trish
