Hi can anyone give me some ideas on where to look for my family now, i have been using the parish records but have hit a snag! All the records for East Dereham in Norfolk in the late 1700's are water damaged or so hard to read i can not find anything further from them. I am trying to find my Nan's great grandfather, from the 1841 census i know he was an agricultural labourer born c 1791 but as he was married by banns i have no further details on him. Is this as far as i am going to get? Yvette

Hi Yvette According to my genealogy book, from 1597 English and Welsh parishes sent copies of their parish registers every year to the bishop of the diocese in which the parish was situated. These are called Bishops Transcripts. The Federation of Family History Societies publish a list of transcripts that have survived. Their website is www.familyhistorybooks. co. uk or www.ffhs.org. uk (take the spaces out) Good luck! k
