What is 1901 decoder?

Sorry if this question has been done to death but i cannot find an answer. Please will someone explain to me what this decoder does. Is it worth getting? Thanks in advance Alison

ok so i Googled and now i sort of know what it does. But is it worth it and how complecated is it?

Hi Alison, The decoder is not complicated really, you just click on the icon on your desk top once you have downloaded the programme and it takes you straight to the census, you search as normal then click on process search and show results then you group the prople by either page number or personal id the end result should be all the people living in a particular household. You don't get the address but it does narrow your search. Hope this helps a bit. Gen

I'm answering my own question here but it is very good indeed! I downloaded this morning and took the plunge. Now sifting through a ton of new info - can't get it to print at the moment though!

Helen, If the icon does not appear automatically on your desktop:- 1. Go into your windows explorer and find the file 2. Right click with your mouse and click "create shortcut". A new file will then appear with a number 2 at the end of the name. 3. Just reduce your windows explorer box and then drag the new file to your desktop. 4. If you do two clicks slowly on the icon, it will then highlight the name of the icon and you can change it to take the 2 off or call it whatever you want. Hope that helps and makes sense!
