If it was "inconvenient" then births can be registered outside the district, but that registrar would send the details to the district where the birth occoured. This is the position today but I am not sure if it has been in force since 1837. Bob

I am not sure but I think it would be possible. Someone having a baby frequently went to live with her mother for the birth, and that could be a fair distance from her actual residence. All pertinent details such as address and where born will be shown on the certificate. You might find something on Barbara`s site http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/bmdintro.htm

Do birth's etc have to be registered where they happened. For example if a family moved just after a child was born, could they then register the child in the new district
