Hello everyone, I've just found this site and it's great. I've decided to trace my family tree and have no idea where to start really. I've added all relations that I know of and have now come to a halt. Can anyone advise me the best place to start. Many thanks in anticipation. Paula

Welcome to the obsession. You have started right by listing all known relatives. Next you need to go back from the earliest date you have. If it is a birth, then you need to find that persons parents marriage. Both parents names will be on the birth certificate.

Paula If I can recommend a site for you. 'A Newbies Guide'. Although it is for everybody. It is a long explanation about family research and worth d/loading for future referall. The address is on my web site page1 bottom right along with some other useful sites too. Download the Guide and keep as it will give you so much info about where to go. Good Luck, John http://worldzone.net/family/reddesktop/

Whether you use a computer or paper, make sure you have a list of 'essential' information for every person. An example would be: Full name Date and place of birth Parents' names Christening date and place Date and place of marriage Spouse Children Date and place of death Cause Date and place of burial Keep a note of all the certificate GRO references you find, even if you can't order the certificate. Good luck and remeber the number one rule: ASK if you hit a brickwall!
