Patricia I have been doing irish ancestry research for a while now. It's not quite as difficult a prospect as it may seem, because many Irish people went to America, and the Americans are very keen on researching their irish ancestry! You said that your family left Ireland in 1920, did they emigrate to the USA? it they did, you could try www(.)ellisisland(.)org (remove the brackets of course). Anyone coming into the USA had to pass through the immigration centre at Ellisisland and most if not all these records are available online to search (free!) the records can be a bit difficult to read and remember to check pages either side of your entry as the entries cover more than one page. Any problems e-mail me. Good luck to you. Teresa

Hello Patricia If you go to Resource Centre on the left of this page then click on getting started. You will find all the info you need to begin with. If you need any help after that just put your query up and I am sure some one will help you out. Good Luck Shirley

I am a complete novice at this so I am asking for assistance right from the beginning of my search. My family all come from ireland How do I start? where do I start? all my fathers family are scattered all over the globe as far as I know and my maternal grandfather left Ireland in the 1920s so I know very little any help will be gratefully received, thanks
