hello Shirley,Could it be this? From FREEBMD Ashton under Lyne Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Lancashire, but included parts of Cheshire. Originally called Ashton & Oldham. Sub-districts : Ashton Town; Audenshaw; Chadderton; Crompton; Denton; Dukinfield; Hartshead; Knott Lanes; Middleton; Mossley; Mottram; Newton; Oldham Above Town; Oldham Below Town; Royton; Stalybridge; Stayley. GRO volumes : XX (1837-51); 8d (1852-1930). Oldham (1837-49), Royton (1837-49), Thornham (1837-49), Tonge (1837-49), Waterloo, Woodhouses. Registers now in Tameside, Oldham and High Peak districts

Hello I have just found my GGrandfather on 1837online. The year 1838 district Ashton &co. I know he was born in Oldham. Has anyone any ideas of the &co please. Thank you Shirley
