That's so exciting, Lisa. I've only been doing my tree for a few months so am still a baby to all this. I've got quite far (in my terms) in a short time but was amazed when a very kind lady called Crista from the US, unearthed (not literally!) my great granddad and his family with a German surname on one of the censuses. My granddad had changed the family name to make it more acceptable and no one in the family ever new this!! I really don't believe I would've ever found them if she hadn't intervened so I am ever so grateful. Hopefully you'll find even more rellies in the near future! Regards, Aileen x

I started researching about 25 years ago; my mum has mostly Irish ancestors; my dad has mostly English ancestors. I've tried so hard to find mum's ancestors, never having any luck with Irish records. Paul, a GC member, was kind enough to offer his help one day. As it turns out, he found several records, at least two of which I had seen before: an IGI birth record and an 1881 Canadian census record (which I had seen many, many times over the years). What happened? Paul spotted a name that linked my ancestor's census record to the IGI record. It's a terribly long story, but the conclusion is I believe we now know where my ancestor was born and who his parents were! And, we may have found the link with someone in my home province, as well as found the link with someone in Ireland whom we met when I was about 13 years old. All because someone looked over the records with "fresh eyes". If you feel like giving up, please sit down and look at your information again. You never know what you might find. I wish you all the best of luck in your searches.
