I have not visited any register offices in person but I have telephoned about a dozen different offices in the last few months about old certificates and have had nothing but help and encouragement. Maybe Oswestry staff need telling they are letting the side down - politeness costs nothing.

I would write a letter of complaint to the Superintendant Registrar. If you have a recent certificate from there, you will have the persons name.

Maybe we need a name and shame board on this site and hopefully some one from the place will see it . Mary

Have been to Oswestry Registry Office today. Please do not make the mistake I made and visit this office in person. I have never met such rude and disagreeable people anywhere. I have been to this office a couple of times in the last two weeks and have not encountered on person on the premises with any manners towards the general public. If they treat grieving relatives like this when people go to register a death, then I cannot think how distressing that visit could be. And I was only doing a favour.
