I was looking through the Cambridgeshire village of Bottisham in the 1881, and found three houses whose address was Wait for the bus, then the name of the road, Bottisham. So I suppose that outside these houses was ... where you wait for the bus. Jan. |

Jan This must be some sort of error. There were no buses in 1881. Bus is short for omnibus and the word came into being circa 1909. There would only have been trains, possibly a coach and horse or a cart. Is this another joke in the 1881 census like Robert Goodman? Gary |

This is one of the addresses: Dwelling Wait For The Bus, Lode Road Census Place Bottisham, Cambridge, England Family History Library Film 1341401 Public Records Office Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 1678 / 13 Page Number 19 The next two Wait for the bus houses were unoccupied. Don't forget there were horse drawn omnibuses before the petrol driven ones. Jan. |

You get weird ones modern day as well. I was posting a letter back to a company and the address started 'Dog in the Lane' anyone know what all that is about???? |
