Please can anyone tell me how I can find the report of a post mortem in Chorlton upon Medlock, Lancs., in 1883? Is there a general way of accessing such information, or are there local variations? Rosemary in Essex.

Try the local records office, or a main library in the area.

Thanks Carole, I thought there might be a national register. Rosemary

Hi Rosemary! My daughter, who works in a hospital mortuary, suggests that you should telephone the public mortuary in the area you want, and they should be able to tell you where the records are kept. Alternatively try calling the hospital mortuary in the area. Good luck! Dierdre X
