Numbskull needs help-census decoder

A point to remember is that families could contain people with different surnames. My gggrandma had two Claytons and six Dixons(after marriage to same dad). So typing in the mothers maiden name (if known) ,searching and then grouping can reveal extra family. Bob

Helen. Census decoder for the 1901. Helps to get out the info you would otherwise have to pay for (BUT NOT ALL). See Shelli's answer. Helps you to get families together which can be useful under certain circumstances. We had some difficulty in working it until helped by a tip on this board. Aye Keith

Call me thick, but I've seen lots of threads about census decoders but, in all the months I've been on here, have never bothered to ask about it. Have I been missing something and what would I want one for?

the page id will list all people on same page. The person id will put them in order, which is generally much more useful. Consecutive number usually indicate a family or household. For example head 001 wife 002 son 003 daughter 004

Can anyone help this numbskull. I downloaded the census decoder this evening. All is working fine, but what is the difference between person ID and page Id when you group the results. Sorry Marie
