Would anyone have ideas on how to find lists of names of the girls in the various Tiller Girls Dance troups that went to New York and danced at the Ziegfeld Follies, particularly 1920s-30s. Im trying to add my Great aunt to my tree and thats all I know of her except I think she was born Lanarkshire. Her name was Sarah Townsend but they called her Dolly and I'm wondering if she used that as a stage name. She would have been born about 1900

Hi Sylvia You could try looking on the Rootsweb Theatrical-Ancestors List and also Rootsweb Theatre-UK List - both of which have had messages posted regarding the Tiller Girls. Alternatively, if you do a Google Search for Tiller Girls there are a lot of sites. You could try an advanced search for 1920s 1930s history or similar and see if there is a site with an email contact for information. Sue

Thanks ladies. I will try those sites. I think she might have been just a little cog in a big machine, but still deserves a mention somewhere cheers, Sylvia

Sylvia. There is a lady living quite close to us who was a pre war Tiller Girl (she still has a figure to die for I might add). We don't see her very often but next time we bump into her I'll mention your query. My wife was also a Tiller Girl but in the late 1940/early 1950 era and regrets being unable to help you with your query. Peter

My mother was also a member of the Tiller Girls in the late 40's early 50's. I remember her telling me that often she would perform at the Hackney Empire.
