Don't forget that 1841 was the first census with proper information. Up to then, the Census was only a headcount and had no other information. Also, in 1841 people's ages were rounded up to the nearest 5 so age 41 could be entered as 40 or 45 - so don't worry if ages don't quite tally with what you had in mind. Both above info points have come off people on this site when I have asked questions - so thanks again guys. Just for info about the earlier census:- 10 March 1801 27 May 1811 28 May 1821 30 May 1831 and the rest you have.

In the 1841 census, the ages were rounded DOWN not up. eg 20=20-24, 25=25-29 etc

That's how I understand it Janice, "The 1841 census is the first useful genealogical census for England & Wales. You will see that no relationships are given - except occasionally in column 5 where you may see Farmer's Wife or similar. All ages 15 and above should have been rounded down to the nearest 5 year multiple, i.e. ages shown as 15 may be 15-19, ages shown as 20 may be 20-24, etc. Another point to remember for ages is that people often said that they "were in their 60th year" meaning that they had passed their 59th birthday. If a person gave information meaning they were in their 60th year, they will be shown as being 60, whereas strictly keeping to the rules, they should be recorded as 55." I have found some sites where it says the opposite, but knowing the actual birth dates of my family on the 1841, they were rounded down. Sun/Mon. 6/7th June 1841 Sun/Mon. 30/31st March 1851 Sun/Mon. 7/8th April 1861 Sun/Mon. 2/3rd April 1871 Sun/Mon. 3/4th April 1881 Sun/Mon. 5/6th April 1891 Sun/Mon. 31st March / 1st April 1901 The dates are of the night. All on Sunday.
