Ancestor in hospital 1881 census

Thank you Brenda and Margaret, I have already found him on the 1881 census as being in hospital and I wanted to know why he was there - so I will try your link Margaret and thanks for the offer of the look up Brenda, everyone is so helpful at GC!

Just wondering if there is any way to find out more info about an ancestor who was in hospital for 1881 census. The institution could not be found on the 1901 census. Would there be records any where that could be accessed? The hospital in question is in Barrow in Furness Lancs.
