Thanks for that advice Mary, l have a rough idea of the property based on family history. He died without leaving a will which is where the mystery is! we have got the copy of the intestate details which states he left estate valued at £1273 gross and net £768 which is another mystery, what debts could there be of £500. It is this whole mystery that has started the family (mainly me) doing family history research. Lynne

Hi Lynne If you know the address of the property that he owned in Derbyshire then apply to the Records Office or the local library in that district to see if they hold Rate Books. These tell you who owns the property and who rented it in any particular year and the rent they paid. Not a lot of these Rate Books still exist as they came out every year but you might be lucky. His will should also give you details. Mary

Hello Lynne, I am having the same problem. My gggrandfather left property in his will. We would love to locate them for photographs. We know the village but not the houses. Please let me know if you find out anything. Regards Helena

Does anyone know how to find out the owner of a property in about 1920? My grandfather died in 1928 in Manchester and although living in a rented house left an estate valued at £1200,we think he may have owned property in Derbyshire and through research l have an idea of where it was. Lynne
