Violet Are you looking for anyone in particular? If so, post the details that you have and we can all pitch in and give you a helping hand - and find out if it is just you or whether they really aren't there!! As has already been said, if you can't get any results, try putting less information in - just the name for example and leave out the years or the district etc. I have had a lot of luck with FreeBMD and it saves a lot of money! Good luck.

It could be that the pople you are looking for have not been transcribed yet. I prefer to use the 1837 online site - www(.)1837online(.)com, which as far as I am aware is complete, but you have to pay to use the site. £5 gets you credits which you can then use to search for relatives. I've found far more people this way then with freebmd. Using this site also gives you the 'GRO ref' which you can then use to order certifcates on line at www(.)col(.)statistics(.)gov(.)uk (remove brackets from arounds the 'dots'). I have some Skinners in my family tree and have found them in BMD. Must be lucky with the years. Keep checking though as they are adding records at about 1.5 million a month at the moment. Mike

Check the coverage page. There is a wide variation some years nearly complete, some hardly any. Find your local county BMD if any, and check there. When complete these will be quicker and more accurate. Bob

I try to go on during day when it is a lot quieter. Do not put in too many details. Just names or surname . If the name is quite common I do a ten year search. Not all years are transcribed but I usually get good results. Good luck. Shirley

I never seem to have any luck when searching freebmd. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?
