Marriage Transcription Error??

I agree with Terence. The 1837 is only a scanned copy of the record pages whereas BMD uses those same scans to transcribe the data. I have found that even the typed scans are sometimes difficult to read so an error could have accurred during the transcription. I us e a copy of the scan from BMD and one from 1837 when I'm transcribing and sometimes even this extravagance doesn't help clear up any queries. Mike

My g.grandfather was called Thomas Horton. born c1869. On his marriage cert. He was listed as being called Jonathan Thomas Horton. Spouse Mabel Collins. I looked up his father (George Horton ) on the 1841 cambridgeshire census. what was Thomas's grandfathers name ?? Jonathan Horton ! I'm sur our rellies did these name changes to confuse us !! Hi Kathy I transcribe for freebmd and it is likely that the "tr" in Strutton was transcribed as "h". I've found that when transcribing handwritten records, quite often the letter "t" is not crossed. Hope this is of some help. Terry

Hi there, I recently received a photocopy of my grandparent's personal marriage certificate and realised that grandad had had a complete name change! He went from Robert Sturt in the main part of the document, to Robert Smith in the portion where it states that the marriage is solemnised. Also my grandma's middle name which was 'Elizabeth' was written 'Lizzieberth' in the same part. Guess the registrar was having a bad day!!! Aileen

Kathy Check the marriage that you found on FreeBMD with the 1837 site. You have the year and qtr and the code. You will soon see if the transcription error is the fault of FreeBMD or is an error in the original index. Margaret

Kathy, On 1837online, one of my relatives in the 1960s has the name Morby written as Morley so it is possible. FreeBMD uses the same data as 1837. Crista

I have been searching for the marriage of: John Strutton, (Born c1852 Kingsland, Hackney) and Caroline Garrett, (Born c1854 Millwall). There oldest child, John Strutton, was born c1874. I have looked on 1837 for Marriage of John without any luck BUT on freebmd I have found: Marriages Jun 1872 Bethnal Green Caroline Garrett and John Shutton. Transcription error?? Any advice appreciated, kind people. Kathy Epsom
