Linda, Yes, that is very confusing. How odd that mother and daughter both married a Chantler and where is John Hill? Have you had a look on the 1871 census? I think Max is doing lookups. Crista

Hello Crista This is where the confusion sets in. Georgiana Hall remarried ? a John Hill by 1870 going by the 1901 census, why when in 1883 when Richard Chantler married it did not state that his father Peter MacGregor Chantler was deceased. Maria Rebecca Chantler on the 1881 census was Georgiana Hill's nee Hall's mother who in 1867 married for the second time a George Chantler who died in 1874. I have been trying to find this George who ever his is and found him as born 1809 in Kent, but here no other info appears to exist. Are you confused Crista? Linda

I have been trying to find any info on a Richard Chantler, and have been for the past 3 years. In the 1881 census he is down as Richard Chanter without the L aged 19 born Kentish Town living in St Pancras. I have been unable to find his birth cert, so I decided to find his brother's John aged 21 in the 1881 census. I found John born in Gravesend and it states his parents were John Chantler Pianoforte Tuner and his mother was Georgiana Hall. Although Richard's birth cert is being a bit evasive I managed to find his marriage cert (Marylebone) and it states his father was Peter MacGregor Chantler - real confusion. I have looked under Chantler/Chandler/Chanter and even MacGregor for this Peter, but as yet have not been able to find the little devil - where do I go from here? Any suggestions in directing me to the light at the end of the tunnel would be appreciated. Regards Linda
