Hi Debra It is a really difficult situation. My mother was adopted and i traced her natural brother. Sadly he died a few years before but i telephoned his wife a couple of times and wrote a letter to her - sadly I never received any replies. I also wrote to her son my cousin again no reply. I also have old photographs of my mum's brother and have traced the family back to about 1700 - I just want to share my findings with them and meet my mother's side of the family. My mum died 10 years ago. I would probably write one more time if i was you maybe by recorded delivery. I constantly wonder if they received my letter - obviously they did but it still leaves doubts. If you do not received any replies next time you can only do what i am doing which is hope the letter has been put away safe and one day somebody will get in touch. Roseanne

Hi Debra: I have an "older" contact in Ireland whom I write to periodically. A couple of times I did not hear back from her and thought perhaps she had passed away. After writing and not hearing one of the times, I found out later that her family home had been partially destroyed by fire and during that year her only sibling (who shared the home) had passed away. She was devastated and just couldn't bring herself to do most things. Perhaps your letter reached your relative at an awkward time. I would try again. When addressing envelopes, under my return address I also write "(Cousin of Bob)" or something similar, so that they don't throw the letter away without opening it. Good luck.

Perhaps you could, in the first instance, write again saying that you have found the photo's and ask her to let you know if she would like them. If you don't hear anything further after this offer, then I think you can safely assume that she wants no further contact? Janet

I have tried for 10 years to find my cousin who due to a family split moved from Scotland to England. I discovered recently with the help of GC that he died in 1995. I have since sent a letter to his widow after checking address on 192.com but have had no reply do I write again or presume she wants no contact.I would love to know what family, career etc my cousin had as well as adding his family to my tree and also have various photo,s that I am sure his family would love to have of him as a child.
