i was looking ages for becket well lane derby for ages, the stree that ran into it colyear street was ther, then i noticed in the civil parish on one address it said becker, so i put that in the search and found it listed becker will lane, so the spelling done on some off the numbers could be wrong if one enumerator did one side and a different one the other

Get in touch with the Census Help Desk. I found a whole village missing and was told that 16 pages were missing because there were no microfiche pages. They didn't say that the omission would be rectified. I suppose the only way to see the pages you want would be at the local Records Office. Renee

Carole, There's a Windhill Old Road in Bradford that has lower numbers. There's a 31 and 33 but no 32. Crista

when i was an enumerator, we didn't always get a complete road to do, someone else covered the other houses. I have some old postcards belonging to a great aunt from around 1900, they started off saying the house number was 79, then they largely used the house name. My mum and I thought the house was 97, we went back recently to see the house and it was 97, the house name was etched into the gatepost, so there must have been some remunbering done at some stage.

On some census returns the enumerator walked down one side of the street, took a couple of detours down side streets on the way, turned left at the end, did a few more houses THEN crossed over and came back along the other side of the road. This means entries for the street you want can be spread over several pages.

Hi Gwyneth No, hadn't thought of that possibility - it's worth a try. Thanks

Carole, Have you tried applying to Bradford library or local studies department?. I was looking for a family in the South Wales valleys and the nearest town library sent copies of the 1901 census and a map of the area from that time, at very low cost. The enumerator had just counted along the houses in the street and had numered them accordingly, - nothing like the number where I knew relatives had been born before and after 1901.

Hi Lesley. That's what I was afraid of as the names I'm looking for are also extremely common and would involve spending a small fortune and can't use guesstimator on my Mac. Thanks for your time Carole

I'm slowly going mad with this one so could sks please put me out of my misery? Is there any reason why half a road (nearly all the even numbers) is missing from the 1901 census? I'm looking for No 32 Windhill Road, Bradford (which existed on Feb 4th 1901, according to my grandfather's birth certificate). Another address on his birth certificate is 70 Britannia Square, Keighley which also seems to have disappeared. Am I doing something wrong? Carole
