Sorry...........I should have checked before starting the thread. I will have another look and volunteer my services, even if I am a myopic, one-fingered typist who can never remember where she left her glasses!!!.............Pam

Ann - or if anyone else knows The county I am interested in isn't being transcribed yet. Is there anything I can do? Jeanette

Pamela, If you go to Freecen and click on transcriptions you get a list of counties where transcriptions are in progress. If you click on the county you're interested in it should (if it's kept up to date) show what information has been uploaded. Emma.

The problem I see with freecen is not that it is incomplete, since it is relying on volunteers it will go at its own speed depending on the time people makeavailable and that is understandable, but I have never found a way of finding out what is on freecen and thus worth searching for and what isnt there yet. At least with freebmw you can check the status of the downloads so you know whether to give up and forget it or come back later when more record have been added. have I missed how to do this on freecen? If you cant yet get this information would it not be possible for freecen to add this facility to the site? Pam

Pam and all Have you seen the thread on page 3 re-freecen it is in it's early day's, and in their defence they can only go as quick at getting data on to the net if people will volunteer to do it, so why not have a go it's not too bad I have only done a little but every little helps!! Don't mean to sound bolshy but it is volunteers that get this info on to the net in the first place--- lol. Regards Ann

Hi Pamela I have had a few successful results from Freecen, so it is working. You are probably searching areas that aren't transcribed yet. To prove it's not an access 'thing' try Essery in surname for 1891, you should get 130 results. Debbie

Freecen seems to be moribund. I don't think it has ever got going. Perhaps it is still being developed. Fingers crossed, Marian

Is there a knack to searching Freecen? I have tried putting in both specific details and name only and keep getting no results. Has anyone here used Freecen successfully? Thanks..........Pam
