Hi I have just read my local evening paper, and it was about a liitle 2 year old girl with learning disabilities and her name is Lally. It looks like it is her real name and not her nickname. just thought i`d share this with you as I was so suprised. Debbie

Thanks for all you help everyone. I've pretty much decided the she was Laura. The surname isn't that common and it's the only birth entry around that time that makes sense. That, plus I found an aunt of Lolly's who was Laura too. Crista

Crista, I know a laura and we call here lollypop so I would hazard a guess that Lolly is a nickname for laura!

Thanks Kat and Lillian. Just spoke to my mum and she says she was known as Lolly and not Lally so it's beginning to look like the birth record I found for Laura is the right one. Crista

I have a Lally whose real name was Lauren so I don't see why it shouldn't be a nickname for Laura too. Often those names were names in their own right though so try searching for Lally as well as variations. -Kat

My inconsiderate rellies have listed all their children by first initial only in the 1901 census. One of the daughters is listed as "L" and I've been told by my mother this is probably Lally. Obviously this is a nickname and I've found a birth record around the right time for a Laura. Could this be the right one? Google lists Lolly as a possible nickname for Laura. Crista
