If you would like to get a great insight into what life was like in London in the 1700's, try this book by Maureen Waller. It's extremely well written and a good read, not at all heavy. Some chapter headings- Marriage, Childbirth, Disease, Fashion, The Poor, Huguenots and Other Strangers, and Crime and Punishment. A really interesting look into the often sad, cruel and unpleasant life that was the lot of the majority of people in those days. I got it from the library but intend to try to get a copy for my genealogy collection. It's published by Hodder and Stoughton, and the ISBN # is 0 340 73966 5.
