Marion, Thanks for your help. The pub in question was run by the White family in 1901 but it might still possibly have been called the 'Pheonix' ? Unfortunately I only get an error message when I tried the Gendocs site. Pat

Hi, I have a pub on the 1851 census in Poplar, but it actually shows the pubs name - your chap may not have 'lived in' maybe?? By the way, mine was the Phoenix run by the Bell family. There is a website, but I think you need the name - it might have someone you can e-mail though. http://www(.)gendocs(.)demon(.)co(.)uk/pubs(.)html Maz. XX

Thanks to a wonderful tip on GC about using 'wildcard' searches on the 1901 census site I have found my grandmother! Her name had been wrongly transcribed. She was working as a nursemaid at the home of a 'Licensed Victualler' (which I take to be a pub) at 7 Ricardo Street, Poplar. Does anyone know where I might look to find out the name of the pub at the time? Thanks Pat
