Was the informat a relative or the doctor? it could be something like B in lw for bother in law? or the medical qualifications of the Doctor if he was the informant. Depending on the date you could look for the name in the 1901 or 1881 census to get some clue. Pamela

Hello again Pamela and thanks The record is for a Peter Lynch and the informant is a James Lynch but I cant work out the relationship to him. The first letter looks like a backwards S, in fact more like &. Shona

Could it be son??? I tend to figur out what it may be and then compare that t matching letters on the rest of the cerificate. What I once thought was Soniburgh Street was in fact Osnaburgh Street once I compared my letters Zoe

If Peter had a wife who had children prior to the marriage these children would be know and in-laws, so if son in law is a possible reading John could be a step child or even an nephew, depending on date. Pam

Its difficult to say Elaine but that is another possibility. I know there were another two Lynchs listed as head of household - One of them being James but I have not found out if they were related Thanks for the idea I have tried to look for similar letters on the record but it is not helping Shona
