Thanks for that Martin, On the original page I have there seem to be several amendments so that could account for the transcription anomalies?...............Pam

Even the handwritten copy has already been transcribed once into the Census Enumeration Books from the original forms. It is quite common for someone to go ditto, ditto, ditto down the Place Of Birth column because usually the majority are born in the same place. The person transcribing to the online version has just done the same, it very easily happens. Martin

Hi Pam Have looked on the 1891 census and they are at No 1 Albion Street Brighton John age 30 Head Occupation Hawker Born London Eliza 29 Wife Brighton Eliza 4 Daughter Brighton John 2 Son Brighton I would think that now having 2 census returns with him as born London you might consider that to be correct. Hi Pamela A search on FreeBMD gives several John Boons between 1859 and 1861. None in Brighton but these in London: John Cornelius - St Geo Han Sq - Sept 1859 - 1a 196 John Henry Boon - Pancras - March 1861 - 1b 102 Any help? Sue

Go with the original handwritten Census. There are many, many errors in the transcriptions.

I printed out a copy of the original handwritten census and a copy of the printed version. The head of the family is John Boon Married 40 and the address is 59 Albion Street, Brighton. The problem I have is that on the original it gives his birthplace as London and his wife born in brighton, on the printed copy his birthplace is Brighton and Eliza's as Tunbridge Wells. I have a copy of Eliza,s birth certificate showing she was definately born in Brighton so the original was right in her case but can I make the same assumption in his case ? All the other members of the family are correct in all details on both versions. I am trying to find his birth details so I can trace the Boon line, Where should I be looking, London or Brighton? I hope this makes sense and someone can help as I don't want to be going down the wrong road! Many thanks...................Pam
